Starting tomorrow I’m going to put your new and fresh ideas to work in my classroom. Specifically I am going to listen more, mute my own words more and incorporate more conversations and lessons about emotions into our routines.

Thank you so much for your support within my classroom this first half of the school year as my coach. It meant so much to me. I always looked forward to our discussions — They made me realize there is never one perfect way to teach any child anything… the perfect way is to follow the child. Thank you for encouraging me.

Renee is an excellent resource to help teachers, child care givers, and parents with their mission of forming children. I have had the pleasure of working with Renee in the school setting for several years as she coached our staff with approaches to discipline, creating inclusive environments, as well as strategies to guide critical thinking in the classroom. Her book Child in Bloom offers practical strategies for guiding the formation of the child in everyday life. Her approaches to discipline and guidance lift up the dignity of the child and set the child up for success. We chose to give all of our parents at the school a copy of Child in Bloom as a way to help partner with them in the holistic education of their children and empower their skills as first and most important educators of their children.

As a Catholic school administrator and parent, I found it refreshing and extremely helpful to receive information on essential elements of effective parenting from a Catholic perspective. Renee’s work is rooted in not only science and best practices, but also Catholic beliefs that uphold the dignity of every human life. In today’s culture, it is difficult to find sound parenting research that is also infused with faith, which makes what Renee is able to do all the more of a gift. Renee has trained both our parents and our teachers in her practical approaches, including executive function needs for students with ADHD and behavioral approaches we can use at home and school. I have spoken to other Catholic school administrators who are interested in bringing her work to their schools, and we are grateful to support these efforts!

I have nothing but positives to report regarding our school’s experience with Renee Mattson. Parenting is hard, especially in a world with so much negativity, mixed messaging, and influences outside the family pulling children away from the goals and values within the home. Renee helped our community by sharing her book, Child in Bloom, and her personal wisdom and expertise.


Renee presented her information to our Preprimary and Lower Elementary division on one night, and to our Upper Elementary and Junior High parents on another night. She was able to tailor her presentation for the age levels which encouraged more engagement and participation. She was flexible with not only the presentation, but also the logistics and scheduling. In addition, Renee hosted a three part book study for parents. All feedback regarding the book and the community discussions was positive and had parents asking for additional opportunities for engagement with her.


There is no greater gift than parenting. And, it is one of the hardest, if not the hardest, jobs on the planet. We can all use guidance and examples of how others face day to day challenges and the harder life experiences that come with family living. Renee is a champion for fostering intentional, practical, and common sense techniques for parents. I highly recommend Renee’s book as well as her personally for presentations and support for faculty, staff and parents! She is a dynamo!

During our Parent Academy Night, Renee presented Connection, Correction, and Consecration, and the response from our families was overwhelmingly positive. One of the most meaningful compliments came from a parent who is also an experienced educator. She shared that she not only thoroughly enjoyed the presentation but also left with new ideas she could immediately apply.

Because of the positive impact Renee had on our parents, we are excited to welcome her back this year to lead our back-to-school professional development and provide classroom coaching for our teachers.

Renee’s book, A Child in Bloom, extends those same encouraging, practical strategies. Because each chapter is brief and easy to read, it’s an ideal resource for busy parents, allowing them to read a chapter each evening and begin implementing the ideas right away. I was so impressed with the book that I encouraged all of our St. Pius X families to read it, and I also featured it during a meeting with our incoming families.

I highly recommend both Renee’s presentations and A Child in Bloom to any school or parish seeking to strengthen the partnership between parents and educators while providing families with practical, faith-filled parenting guidance.

Our daycare center has been fortunate to work with Renee. The strategies and insights she has shared through her book, Child in Boom, have helped us to understand and respond to children’s behavior. Her approach has helped us create a more thoughtful, compassionate, and effective classroom environment. We look forward to continuing to implement concepts from Child in Boom as part of our program for years to come.
