Book Reviews

  • I’m so relieved to have found Renee’s work . . . Renee offers an ever-green approach to parenting. Her approach gave us a framework that was intuitive, logical, and adaptable. She blends the best of past generations’ parenting wisdom with what the current generation of parents has to offer. She helps parents “trim out” what is unhelpful about the current parenting culture and current bombardment of boutique parenting styles and books that – quite frankly – contradict each other and make parenting harder. Her knowledge comes from being a practitioner – hard-earned years in classrooms, schools and in her own family where she learned and practiced what works. Renee’s parenting techniques are accessible and enduring; parents will be able to revisit her principles and refresh their parenting practices for years to come. Best of all, we as parents get to live out our commitment of truly raising our children as they bloom. If you are a parent (or any adult) who is feeling like things with your child(ren) are out of your control, Renee will help you claim and reclaim your authentic parenthood.

  • This is book is wonderful. I bought 3 copies, one to read myself, and one for each of my adult children who have kids of their own. While my own parenting days are coming to an end, with only the last of my 5 children still living at home, I still found her parenting principles very helpful. Many of her principles we learned the hard way over the years! Wish I had this book when I first had children! This book has tried and true recommendations no matter the ages of your kids and no matter where you are on your parenting journey.

  • I recently purchased four copies of Child in Bloom – one for each granddaughter and one for each great niece. All of them are new moms. I had the opportunity to read the book, and as a former teacher I’m happy to say I wish I had the knowledge of this book, when I taught preschool! It’s a book that moms/educators will reference periodically. Very well written and easy to read with some wonderful examples of how to respond to little ones in various situations. Highly recommend.

  • I bought this book for my daughter, mother of my two granddaughters. So I’m not able to comment on the book. Although she is a wonderful mother I’m hoping she will be able to use some of the content to become an even more effective parent.

  • I raised three children and now helping with five grandchildren. What a great resource for new parents and a reminder to those of us who already walked that path. I loved when the author stated that actually we are ALL in bloom.

  • As a teacher, I ordered this book to get some insight into working better with a preteen who wants to be in control of her studies. Still reading, but have already reaped some benefits. Thanks!

  • The one page chapters on specific titles is very readable and practical. It is ideal for a the parent who is overloaded and needs clear concise assistance in raising their child.

  • As a grandparent this had so many important ideas to try. It makes you want to ask your child parent to read and see if they can incorporate the ideas in the way they parent.

    Julie D.

  • Excellent. Really thoughtful and practical study for interacting and teaching a young child. I thought that I had good instincts for raising a child but this book has shown me more of what I must do. It takes a little practice but I am already seeing good results. Thank you, Renee!

  • When I was a new mother back in the 60’s, Dr. Benjamin Spock was the go-to baby book and it did help a lot especially keeping babies on a schedule and the second part dealing with childhood illness, etc that helped a new mother not to panic. This book, Child in Bloom, is, in my opinion a very heolpful book because chapters deal with specific attitudes and behaviours and how to lovingly address these situations into teaching moments in a firm manner. I could have used this book as these young individuals are developing their own personalities.

  • Bought a copy for me and my girls that are now young parenting mothers. Every one can use a little help. As the saying goes “sometimes we are too close to the forest to see the trees.”

  • I bought 3 books, one for me, the great grandmother and 2 for each of my great grandchild’s parents. I had one of my granddaughters read it and she thought it encompasses all ages and was written in modern down-to-earth language. There are a lot of different subjects, more than I had expected.

  • I loved every chapter of the book and marked several areas that I will work on with my grandchildren. Sharing with their parents too! Common sense tips that gave adults permission to be the enforcer and example setter. Many tips offered for diffusing stressful situations and ways to help children make their own positive choices. Task now is to get my son to read it!! Would highly recommend this book to all parents and caregivers!

  • I got the book because I have grandchildren and because I’m teaching a PSR class. This book has been a great reminder of positive reinforcement. And helping children get back on track becoming whole and loving humans. It reminds of I need to also be loving Christian in our approach to our children, especially in their time of frustration with learning new skills. I bought an extra copy for my daughter and her husband too. I’m excited to hear how it will help them as well. They are great parents, but it’s always good to have some extra strategies in your back pocket

  • Excellent practical, common-sense advice and tools to guide parents in navigating through challenging phases/habits with children. In addition, the short, succinct chapters are not only a quick read, but are thoughtfully organized without overwhelming the reader with too many unnecessary words. I would highly recommend this book!
